How to read this, in order
The mistake almost every new trader makes is checking one coin's price and drawing a conclusion. Read these four things in sequence instead and the picture becomes much clearer.
Total market cap — the tide
If total capitalisation is down 6%, your coin being down 6% is not information about your coin. It is the market.
Bitcoin dominance — where money is sitting
Dominance is Bitcoin's share of total capitalisation. Rising dominance in a falling market means capital is retreating to Bitcoin. Falling dominance in a rising market is the classic "altcoin season" pattern.
The heatmap — breadth
A market where 38 of 40 cells are green is a broad move. One where two cells are green and the rest are flat is a story about two coins.
24h against 7d — is this new?
A coin down 3% today but up 20% over the week is consolidating. Down 3% today and down 25% over the week is a trend.
Reading market cap in naira changes the picture
Here is something a dollar-denominated site cannot show a Nigerian. The naira value of the crypto market can rise while the dollar value falls, because there are two moving parts: the assets, and the currency you measure them in.
| Dollar market cap | Naira rate | Naira market cap | What a Nigerian holder experiences |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat | Naira weakens | Up | Gain in naira with no market move at all |
| Down 10% | Naira weakens 12% | Roughly flat | A dollar loss that feels like nothing happened |
| Up 10% | Naira weakens 10% | Up ~21% | Both effects compounding |
| Up 10% | Naira strengthens 15% | Down ~4% | A dollar gain that shows as a naira loss |
This is why a Nigerian holder needs to be clear about which currency they are measuring in — and why "USDT is up" is a statement about the naira, not about USDT. If the goal is preserving purchasing power in Nigeria, naira is the right denominator. If the goal is judging whether an asset is doing well, dollars are.
What dominance actually tells you
| Dominance | Market | Usual reading |
|---|---|---|
| Rising | Rising | Bitcoin-led rally; altcoins lag |
| Rising | Falling | Risk-off — capital rotating out of altcoins into Bitcoin |
| Falling | Rising | Altcoin season; also where most retail losses are made |
| Falling | Falling | Broad exit, often toward stablecoins |
The Nigerian caveat on altcoin season. A falling-dominance rally is when thin-liquidity altcoins post spectacular percentages. It is also when Nigerian traders get trapped in coins with no naira exit — a token can be up 400% and still be unsellable at size on a Nigerian P2P book. Liquidity is a feature, and we treat it as one.
Three things this page is not
- Not a buy or sell signal. Heatmaps describe the last 24 hours. They say nothing about the next 24.
- Not a completeness claim. Market capitalisation counts tokens that exist, including ones that never trade. A large cap with tiny volume is a warning, not a badge.
- Not a substitute for the order book you will actually trade in. For that, see Nigerian P2P rates.
How this tool gets its numbers
crypto.net.ng serves static pages — there is no server doing calculations for you. This tool reads a public market-data API directly from your browser and renders the result on your device. Three consequences worth knowing:
- Nothing you type is sent to us. Amounts you enter stay in your browser.
- An ad-blocker or a network block can stop it. If the numbers do not appear, that is usually why. The page tells you rather than showing a blank space.
- A market reference rate is not a P2P quote. This is the single most important thing to understand about any naira crypto tool — see Nigerian P2P rates for why the two differ and by how much.
Frequently asked questions
What is the total crypto market cap in naira?
The live figure is at the top of this page, converted to naira from the global total. Remember it moves for two reasons — the assets themselves and the naira rate — so a naira increase does not necessarily mean the market rose.
What is Bitcoin dominance and why does it matter?
Bitcoin's share of total crypto market capitalisation. Rising dominance in a falling market usually means capital is retreating to Bitcoin; falling dominance in a rising market is the pattern people call altcoin season, and it is when thin-liquidity coins post the largest and least reliable gains.
How do I read a crypto heatmap?
Each cell is a coin, coloured by its 24-hour move — green up, red down, stronger colour for a larger move. What you are looking for is breadth: a market where most cells are green is a broad move, while two green cells among forty flat ones is a story about two coins.
Why does the naira market cap rise when the dollar market cap falls?
Because the naira rate is the other variable. If the naira weakens faster than crypto prices fall, the naira-denominated total rises even though the assets lost dollar value. This is the single most important distinction for a Nigerian holder to keep straight.
Is a high market cap a sign a coin is safe?
No. Market capitalisation multiplies price by tokens in existence, including tokens that never trade. A large capitalisation with low daily volume means you may not be able to exit at anything near the quoted price — check volume, not just cap.
