Nigerian P2P rates — how to read a USDT/NGN quote

There is no single Nigerian P2P rate. There is a reference rate, and then a band of offers around it that moves with time of day, trade size, payment method and how badly the merchant wants the order. This page shows you the reference, explains the band, and gives you a way to judge any quote in about ten seconds.

Why this page does not show a live P2P order book. We would like it to. Binance, Bybit and the other P2P venues do not expose their order books to a browser running on another website — the request is blocked before it is made. Any site claiming to show you live Nigerian P2P depth is either running a server-side scraper, or showing you a reference rate and calling it a P2P rate. We serve static pages and we are not going to mislabel a number. What we can give you is the reference, the spread bands we consistently observe, and the method to read a real book yourself in seconds.

The spread band, and what it costs you

On a liquid Nigerian USDT/NGN book in normal hours, the gap between the best buy offer and the best sell offer is usually somewhere between 1.5% and 3.5%. Half of that gap sits on each side of the reference rate.

SituationBuy premium over referenceSell discount to referenceVerdict
Deep book, daytime, top merchant+0.5% to +1.2%−0.5% to −1.2%Good — take it
Normal conditions+1.2% to +2.5%−1.2% to −2.5%Acceptable
Late night, thin book+2.5% to +4%−2.5% to −4%Wait for morning if you can
Naira demand spike, or market stress+4% and above−4% and belowDo not trade unless you must

Reading it the other way round: if you are buying USDT, you want the smallest premium. If you are selling, you want the smallest discount. A merchant offering you a great buy rate and a terrible sell rate is not generous — they are positioned.

The ten-second quote check

  1. Take the reference from the top of this page

    Say ₦1,600 per USDT.

  2. Divide the merchant's quote by it

    A quote of ₦1,632 gives 1.02 — a 2% premium.

  3. Place it in the band above

2% is normal. 4% is not. 6% means someone is relying on you not doing this arithmetic.

  4. Then check the merchant, not just the price

The best rate on the page is frequently a new account. Completion rate above 98% and 500+ orders matter more than 0.3% of rate.

Platform by platform

Different venues behave differently for Nigerian users. This is a structural comparison — where the liquidity is and how each one works — not a live rate table.

PlatformNGN P2P depthP2P trading feeNotes for Nigerians
BybitDeep0% for takersCurrently among the most liquid NGN/USDT books; strong merchant base
BitgetDeep0%Competitive spreads, good app-side escrow flow
BinanceVariable0%Historically the deepest; naira availability changed after 2024 — check before relying on it
KuCoinModerate0%Thinner than Bybit or Bitget for NGN; fine for smaller orders
QuidaxModeratePlatform spreadNigerian operator; direct NGN wallet rather than merchant matching
BushaModeratePlatform spreadNigerian operator; simple interface, spread built into the quote
RoqquModeratePlatform spreadNigerian operator; NGN wallet, mobile-first
CEX.IOOrder book, not P2P0.16%/0.25%Licensed venue; you trade the book rather than a merchant

An important distinction: on Bybit, Bitget, Binance and KuCoin you trade against a merchant, and the spread is theirs. On Quidax, Busha and Roqqu you trade against the platform, and the spread is baked into the quoted price. The second is simpler and usually slightly more expensive. When spreads widen — the pattern

WindowBook depthWhat to do
7am–10amBuildingGood for selling; buyers are active
10am–6pmDeepestBest window for anything large
6pm–10pmGoodRetail peak; fine for normal sizes
10pm–2amThinningSpreads widen; split or wait
2am–7amThinWorst rates of the day; avoid if possible
End of monthVolatileSalary week distorts both sides; check twice

Payment method matters too. Merchants price bank transfer and the major fintechs — Kuda, Opay, Moniepoint, PalmPay — most competitively because settlement is instant and disputes are rare. Cash and unusual rails carry a premium for the merchant's extra risk.

Is the spread an arbitrage opportunity?

Occasionally, and much less often than people hope. Buying at a discount on one platform and selling at a premium on another is a real trade, but the honest maths includes the transfer time between platforms, the network fee, the risk that the spread closes while your transfer confirms, and the fact that repeated high-volume naira cycling is exactly the pattern that attracts bank attention. We work through it properly in crypto arbitrage in Nigeria.

Protecting yourself in a P2P trade

Never release crypto on a screenshot. Wait for the genuine credit alert from your own bank app. Payment confirmations are trivially faked, and this is the single most common way Nigerian P2P sellers lose money.

  • Stay inside the platform's escrow for every trade, without exception.
  • Refuse any counterparty who wants to move to WhatsApp or Telegram.
  • Never write crypto keywords in the transfer narration — see banks and crypto.
  • Use a dedicated low-balance account for P2P so a lien cannot reach your salary.
  • Keep the order record — it is your evidence if a transfer is ever queried.

How this tool gets its numbers

crypto.net.ng serves static pages — there is no server doing calculations for you. This tool reads a public market-data API directly from your browser and renders the result on your device. Three consequences worth knowing:

  • Nothing you type is sent to us. Amounts you enter stay in your browser.
  • An ad-blocker or a network block can stop it. If the numbers do not appear, that is usually why. The page tells you rather than showing a blank space.
  • A market reference rate is not a P2P quote. This is the single most important thing to understand about any naira crypto tool — see Nigerian P2P rates for why the two differ and by how much.

Frequently asked questions

What is the P2P rate for USDT in Nigeria today?

There is no single rate — there is a band of merchant offers around a reference rate. The live reference is at the top of this page; expect to pay roughly 1–3% above it when buying and to receive 1–3% below it when selling, wider late at night.

Why can't this page show live Binance P2P rates?

P2P venues do not allow another website's browser code to read their order books, and this site serves static pages with no server-side scraper. Rather than relabel a reference rate as a P2P rate, we show the reference and teach you to read the real book in seconds.

Which platform has the best P2P rates in Nigeria?

Bybit and Bitget currently have the deepest naira books with zero P2P taker fees, which usually produces the tightest spreads. Quidax, Busha and Roqqu quote you a single platform price instead, which is simpler and typically slightly more expensive.

What time of day are Nigerian P2P rates best?

Between roughly 10am and 6pm, when the book is deepest. Spreads widen noticeably after 10pm and are at their worst between 2am and 7am.

Is a 5% P2P spread normal in Nigeria?

No. On a liquid USDT/NGN book in normal hours you should be within 1–3% of the reference rate. Five percent means either a genuinely stressed market or a merchant relying on you not checking.

Can I make money from P2P spread arbitrage in Nigeria?

Sometimes, but far less often than it appears. Transfer time, network fees, the spread closing while you move funds, and the bank scrutiny that follows high-volume naira cycling all eat the theoretical margin. See our arbitrage guide for the real arithmetic.
